2018 By-Elections Campaign

As you know, there is a lot hanging on the by-elections for both the major parties, so we anticipate that high profile politicians will visit the main booths in each electorate on Saturday – most likely with TV crews on their trail, and most likely between 10am – 2pm.

A well placed banner calling for the closure of the camps on Nauru and Manus, or any other ‘justice for refugees’ message, might just make it into a news story.   Having got reasonable media coverage from the ‘5 Years Too Long  12 Deaths Too Many’ actions and rallies on the weekend (see https://australianrefugeeactionnetwork.wordpress.com/five-years/ ),  this would be a great follow-up.

NB, this would be a silent protest action – as there are rules about canvassing  with the aim of influencing votes. https://www.aec.gov.au/About_AEC/Publications/backgrounders/polling-places-offences.htm
